Internal Link

To create a link to an existing page from this wiki called Events, insert the following text in your page:

 [[Events]]

This will lead to a link called Events in your page, which you should be able to click to get to the Events page, if it exists. (If the page doesn't exist, the link will be red, and when you click on it, the page will be automatically created and you will be able to start adding text to it. Remember to save it after editing it.)

In some cases, you might want to link to this Events page, but refer to it differently in your page. For example, you might want to have a sentence in your page such as "In order to access the Events page on this wiki, please click here", and have the word "here" be a link to the Events page. To do this, you would insert the following text in your page:

In order to access the Events page on this wiki, please click [[Events|here]].

This will show up as

In order to access the Events page on this wiki, please click here.

and you will be able to click on the link "here" to get to the Events page.

Quick check: If you have just created a link and it shows up red, as in the example above, that means that the page that you are linking to doesn't exist. If you intend to create the page, that's fine. If you think that you are pointing to an existing page, double check the page name (text to the left of the vertical separator).

External Link

Links to pages outside the wiki can be created in a couple of different ways:

  • Single brackets and no separator are used to create a link to a page outside the wiki. For example, a link to the MIT homepage can be created usiing the text:

[http://www.mit.edu MIT Homepage]

with the result

MIT Homepage

  • or simply by typing the text
 http://www.mit.edu

with the result

http://www.mit.edu
