Introduction

Slicer is a software platform for image visualization and processing delivered as a cross platform desktop application. In general, it is recommended to use computers with enough memory and graphics capabilities.

Hardware Configuration

  • Precompiled versions 64bit of Slicer 4.0 are available for Windows7, Linux, and Mac OS X.
  • Main memory should be more than 4GB (8 or more recommended).
  • If you want to use volume rendering, make sure you work with a computer that has dedicated graphics hardware and memory. You should have enough graphics memory to hold your data set. 1GB is recommended. In general, we have seen fewer issues with volume rendering using nvidia graphics cards.
  • Several core operations in Slicer are multi-threaded, so performance will be better on recent multi-core and multi-CPU computers.
  • Three button mouse with scroll wheel recommended.

Recommended OS versions

  • Windows 7 64bit
  • Mac OS X Lion
  • Linux: recent versions of popular distributions should work. Ubuntu and Fedora are the most widely used distribution among the developers.
